"Former"
Proprietor and Valet Joy-Rider Jeff is no longer involved with Indigo, but he is a great man and his bio is quite funny. So we kept it! ......Jeff Kanbar is a native New Yorker
with a background in sales, marketing, and promotions. Prior to Indigo he
worked as a busboy for a country club in his hometown and got canned after
the first day. Kanbar moved on and became the sole Marketing and
Promotions Director for SKYY Vodka in New York City. For almost 3 years
with SKYY Kanbar worked closely with some of the best eateries in
Manhattan. It was not long before he became passionate about food, wine,
and the rush of being in a vibrant restaurant. While still on a tight
budget he reinforced his passion for developing a gourmet palette by
crashing some of the finest weddings and Bar Mitzvahs in New York. It was
clear to Kanbar that owning a restaurant would be his ultimate dream. In
the fall of 96 Kanbar found himself in San Francisco on a 6 month working
assignment for SKYY Vodka. It was then he immediately realized that San
Francisco would be the ideal city to live in and create Indigo.
Kanbar then teamed up with good friend and childhood neighbor,
Greg Medow (see bio below) who was currently managing the 5 star family
owned Boarding House restaurant in Nantucket. Greg agreed to come to San
Francisco only if Kanbar apologized for shooting him in the ass with his
B-B gun in 8th grade. He obliged and Indigo was on its way to being a
reality. When Kanbar is not at Indigo he enjoys quiet evenings at home
trying to master his Rubix Cube.
Greg Medow- Proprietor
& Wine Boy As owner of Indigo, Medow's talent lies in bringing
food and service together in a cohesive fashion. His focus is to provide
friendly yet professional service to every customer without compromising
quality.
A graduate of Cornell University's School
of Hotel Management, Medow has over 15 years of hospitality experience
behind him. He recently held a position on the Board of Directors for
the Norcal Chapter of the American Institute for Wine & Food. His
skills were developed in New York, where he worked at Tribeca Grill,
Zeppole and Tribakery for Drew Nieporent's critically acclaimed Myriad
Restaurant Group. His desire for a smaller scale operation took him to the
Boarding House Restaurant on Nantucket Island in Massachusetts. It was at
this award winning, family operated restaurant that Medow gained his
insight for the details of service, wine and food.
He came to San
Francisco to join his childhood "friend" Jeff Kanbar in opening Indigo.
Although still bitter about 8th grade, he thought Jeff had matured enough
to give it a shot. Medow notes, "I think restaurant dining is the ultimate
culinary experience. We have set high standards of service here and we
strive to exceed our guest's expectations. Our ability to accomplish that
is what sets us apart." When he is not overseeing Indigo, Medow enjoys
hiking the coast of Staten Island.
